Product Entry into Gulf Markets

In recent decades markets in the Gulf have experienced significant economic growth. Retail sales in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region are forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7.3% to reach US$285 billion in 2018*. In order to meet growing consumer demand in the region, an increasing number of brands, retailers and manufacturers are exporting a wide range of products into the region. 

In order to ensure product compliance with pre-defined requirements on health, safety and environmental standards, a G-Mark system has been established by the Standardization Organization of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GSO) for all products entering Gulf markets. This initiative is part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) plan to achieve more coordination and integration between member states and to unify their regulations to facilitate business growth. 

Affixing the G-Mark to products is compulsory for those categories set out in the GCC Technical Regulations. Priority has been given to regulations on toys and low-voltage electrical products’ such as household appliances.
