Low Carbon Manufacturing Programme (LCMP)

As more and more consumers, professional purchasers and organizations are concerned about the environmental impacts of products, manufacturers may need LCMP (Low Carbon Manufacturing Programme) to quantify and balance the impacts of products as well as indicate such environmental information to public.

Meanwhile, the growing concerns of climate change have increasingly driven the demand for PCF (Product Carbon Footprint) information. Almost all the products that we consume are responsible for causing carbon dioxide emissions, through both direct and indirect consumption of energy and materials for their production, distribution, usage and disposal. Regulations related have an obvious trend from voluntary tending towards mandatory in future.

What is LCMP?

LCMP aims at reducing carbon emissions generated by manufacturing facilities in the PRD and developing environmental social governance for those manufacturers. By providing manufacturers with a carbon accounting and labeling system, LCMP helps to measure their effectiveness in reducing carbon emissions and equip them with best practice in greenhouse gas management.

 Apart from PRD in China, Vietnam is a major production base for clothing/ footwear and electronic products industries. In 2016, LCMP launched in Vietnam, and the country scope of LCMP participants has been extended to Cambodia in 2018.

LCMP Verifier and Implementation 

LCMP verifiers are independent third-parties to conduct verification for LCMP participating companies. They are classified into 2 work streams:

• Carbon expert-responsible for verification work on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction and GHG management system;
• Industry expert – responsible for verification work on energy efficiency best practices.
