Protecting Little Lives Ensuring Safe Food from Toxin Contamination

Intertek Greater China is excited to announce the launch of our new capacity for detecting cereulide in our Shanghai food laboratory, supporting the safety of milk and baby food products across the region.

What is Cereulide?

Cereulide is a potent toxin produced by Bacillus cereus, a bacteria that can contaminate food products. It is a known emetic toxin, meaning it can cause vomiting and nausea. Ingesting cereulide can lead to food poisoning, which is especially dangerous for infants and young children, potentially resulting in severe dehydration, digestive issues, and even long-term health effects.

Reliable and Highly Recognized Standard
Our laboratory employs the internationally recognized ISO 18465 standard for cereulide detection in food, using liquid chromatography (LC) and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). This method ensures highly accurate, sensitive, and reliable identification of cereulide levels, helping brands uphold rigorous safety standards.

Prevention
Intertek supports our customers' food safety efforts throughout the supply chain, beginning with source control and process control, and extending to proper storage, transportation, and hygiene management. Regular monitoring and verification further ensure early detection and risk mitigation, especially for products intended for infants and vulnerable populations.
