Paving the way for battery safety and sustainability
Intertek is thrilled to announce that RelyEZ Energy and StarCharge have successfully achieved Notified Body (NB) compliance certification under the new EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. These landmark certifications were awarded to RelyEZ Energy for its GridUltra series containerised energy storage systems (5016kWh, 4180kWh, and 3344kWh) and to StarCharge for its commercial & industrial cabinet energy storage system.
With the enforcement of Battery Regulation, the European Union has set a new benchmark for the industry, introducing carbon-footprint requirements, enhanced waste-management rules, and supply-chain due diligence obligations.
Leveraging our deep technical expertise, Intertek is proud to be among the first wave of Notified Bodies (NB 0413) designated under the regulation. Furthermore, Intertek is currently the world's only Notified Body capable of conducting Article 12 compliance assessments for stationary battery energy storage systems.
Li Hongqing, CEO of StarCharge, said:
“Successfully securing this NB certificate issued by Intertek is a testament to our company's deep commitment to innovation and compliant operations. This certification not only proves that our products have met the corresponding EU compliance standards but also lays a solid foundation for us to expand in the European market.”
Zhang Yu, Compliance Director of RelyEZ Energy, said:
“With the official implementation of the EU Battery Regulation, the energy storage industry is accelerating into a more standardized phase of development. Securing this certificate from Intertek is a significant milestone for us. Moving forward, we will continue to refine our products and compliance frameworks, providing customers with safer, more stable, and highly efficient solutions.”
Joan Li, Vice President of ETL, Greater China, comments:
“As a pioneer in EU Battery Regulation compliance services, Intertek remains focused on the global expansion needs of energy storage enterprises. Issuing this first batch of NB certificates sets a new compliance benchmark for the industry. Backed by our global network, we will continue to leverage our resources and technical expertise to help diverse battery companies ensure compliance, seize European market opportunities and achieve global growth.”
Sunny Rai, President of ETL, Connected World and Transportation Technologies, added:
“Batteries are one of the most critical components for electric vehicles and various industrial & commercial applications. I am incredibly proud of the ETL team and the first batch of companies to reach this milestone together. With our forward-looking expertise and comprehensive services, we will continue to help diverse battery manufacturers enter the market with quality, safety, and sustainability.”
