Expanding our capabilities across one of China’s most important industrial and energy regions

Intertek Caleb Brett is pleased to announce the opening of its newest laboratory in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, further strengthening our global laboratory network and expanding our capabilities across one of China’s most important industrial and energy regions.

Strategically located in Xiashan District, the new laboratory is positioned at the center of a rapidly developing petrochemical and refining hub. The site provides close proximity to major industrial operators including BASF, BAOWU, and ZHONGKE Refinery, enabling Intertek Caleb Brett to deliver responsive, localised support to customers operating across South China’s evolving energy and petrochemical markets.

The Zhanjiang laboratory has been constructed in strict accordance with CNAS-CL01 standards and relevant regulatory guidance, with a strong focus on health, safety, environmental protection, and fire safety management. The facility reflects Intertek’s continued commitment to operational excellence and delivering services aligned with both national and local compliance requirements.

The laboratory is already capable of supporting a broad range of testing services across crude oil, fuel oil, petrochemicals, clean petroleum products (CPP), and renewable fuels. Initial development efforts have prioritised crude oil testing capabilities, with approximately 80% of planned crude testing services already operational to meet current customer requirements. The team continues to expand capabilities across both traditional and renewable energy products, supporting growing demand within the region.

In addition to conventional fuels, the Zhanjiang laboratory is positioned to support emerging energy markets including Used Cooking Oil (UCO), Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), green methanol, green ammonia, and bio-naphtha. Planned future development also includes expanded petrochemical testing capabilities covering hydrocarbons, aromatics, olefins, alcohols, ketones, esters, and related products.

Ian Galloway, EVP World of Energy, says:

“This new laboratory represents an important investment in South China and demonstrates our commitment to supporting customers where they need us most. The team has done an excellent job establishing a facility that meets high operational and safety standards while positioning us to support both traditional and emerging energy markets in the region. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing the Zhanjiang laboratory online.

The project was completed through close collaboration across operations, technical, quality, and HSE teams, with significant progress achieved within an accelerated construction and implementation timeline. Alongside facility development, the team has also advanced preparations for CNAS certification and CMA qualification applications, laying the foundation for continued growth and expanded market opportunities across South China.

The Zhanjiang laboratory is already supporting several major customers and is expected to play an increasingly important role in strengthening Intertek Caleb Brett’s presence within China’s refining, petrochemical, and renewable fuels sectors.

As Intertek Caleb Brett continues to grow its global network, the Zhanjiang laboratory reinforces our ability to provide trusted, independent assurance across critical energy and chemical supply chains, helping customers operate safely, efficiently, and with confidence.
