Intertek Hong Kong Speaks at HKSTP Medical Device Workshop

Safeguarding device safety through comprehensive Testing and Certification

Intertek Hong Kong was invited as an expert guest speaker at the Hong Kong Science Park (HKSTP) workshop titled "Path to Compliance: Navigating IEC 60601-1 and EMC Testing".

The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is a public corporation set up by the Hong Kong Government in 2001 to foster innovation and technology development. HKSTP manages facilities and provides value-added services for the technology and R&D sector.

During the workshop, Electrical Engineer, Ray Yeung, presented and discussed key concepts related to safety testing for medical electrical equipment, as per the international standard series IEC 60601 which is widely recognised as the benchmark for the requirements of medical device safety and performance. It serves as a good reference for those companies in the science park entering the market and developing their new medical devices.

More than 80 participants from 40 companies, including industry leaders and startups, attended the workshop. Ray also used this opportunity to facilitate discussions on potential non-compliance scenarios and effective mitigation strategies, emphasising the importance of ensuring device safety during development.

Through this workshop, Intertek showcased its comprehensive laboratory testing, on-site testing, and certification services for medical devices. These services help our clients to ensure compliance with safety, EMC, and quality standards throughout the whole product life cycle even during the development stage.
